PROFILE – ADIDOME FARM INSTITUTE


Introduction

Adidome Farm Institute is one of the three (3) Farm Institutes under the Human Resource Development and Management Directorate (HRDMD) of Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA). The other institutes are Asuansi and Wenchi Farm Institutes.  The Institute is an Agricultural Technical and Vocational Educational Training Institute established in 1964. It is located in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region. The Institute has a total land area of 83.04 acres for its overall operations.

Mission:

To offer training to prospective farmers and trainees, practicing farmers, Farmers Based Organizations (FBOs) and Community Based Organizations (CBOs) in appropriate modern farming techniques and methods to enable them establish on their own and either to work with NGOs or other Agricultural related  organizations.

In order to pursue this mission, the Institute strives to demonstrate the highest standard of training and business ethics and integrity; and recognizes its social obligation to the social and economic well-being of our community.

Vision:

·         To train men and women in modern and appropriate agricultural methods and business oriented techniques to trainees to manage farm enterprises.
·         To fulfill the requirement of farmer cooperatives: FBO’s, CBO’s, individual farmers, government agencies, NGOs and other Agricultural related organizations.
·         To strengthen the capacity building of agricultural practitioners, to up-grade their knowledge in improved agricultural home economics, management technology, and to make this technology available to the public.
·         To satisfy the demand of the consuming public, by providing quality agricultural products all year round at affordable prices.
The Institute has twenty five (25) committed and dedicated professional teaching and non-teaching staff.  The Institute has accommodation facilities for students, the teaching staff and a few workers.   The Institute has five (5) blocks that serve as halls of residence for students. One (1) hall for female students and four (4) halls for male students.  Each hall can accommodate a maximum of fifty students at a time.  The institute has established departments/units headed by competent and professional staff.   With professionalism, expertise and experience, staff at the institute executes a number of programmes.  In accordance with the Adidome Farm Institute’s Service Charter, the following programmes guide its service provision:
ANIMAL PRODUCTION -  Livestock Production, Poultry Production/Guinea fowl/ Duck, Beekeeping, Fish Farming and Snail Farming
CROP PRODUCTION - Vegetable Production, Arable Crop Production, Mushroom Production, Floriculture and Fruit and Tree Crop Production
FARM MECHANIZATION - Farm Mechanization, Rainwater harvesting, Farm Shop Practice, Animal Traction and Soil and Environment
RELATED STUDIES - Farm Management, Home Management, Basic Comm. Skills in Agric.
Entrepreneurship Development, Information Communication Tech, Sewing (optional)
